Privacy Policy

Effective 14 October 2026. Applies to the EPUB Reader app for Windows published by HAYAH.

The short version

EPUB Reader opens your books on your own PC. It never uploads your books, your notes or anything about them, and has no account and no advertising. It sends anonymous usage events (which features were used and what happened), which you can turn off in Settings.

Your books

The app reads only the book files and folders you add, drop onto it or open with it from File Explorer, and writes only the files you ask for (a PDF export or a highlights export). Book text, titles, authors, covers, file names, folder names, your searches and your highlights never leave your device.

Stored on your PC

Your library list, reading positions, bookmarks, highlights, settings, fonts you add, book covers and a log file for troubleshooting are kept in the app's own folder on your PC. Uninstalling the app removes them. Your book files themselves stay where they are; removing a book from the library never deletes the file.

Network use

The app connects to the internet only for usage events, described below, sent to hayah-epub.pages.dev unless you turn them off. Read aloud uses the voices installed in Windows. "Report a problem" in Settings opens an email in your own mail app; nothing is sent unless you send that email.

Usage events

The app sends anonymous usage events: which features were used and what happened. For example: that the app was opened, that a book was opened and in which format (such as EPUB or CBZ), that a DRM-protected book was refused and which kind of DRM it was, that a reading setting was changed, that a PDF export or read aloud was started and whether it worked, that a bookmark or highlight was added and in which colour, that a search was run, or which error message was shown. Each event carries the app version, the edition, the country as reported by our network provider (Cloudflare), a random identifier for that app session and a one-way hash of a random identifier created when the app was installed. That identifier is not linked to your Microsoft account.

Events never contain your books or anything that could identify them: no book text, titles, authors, file names, folder names, paths, search words or highlighted text. Our server refuses any event that could carry text. We use the events only to improve the app, keep them for up to 180 days, and do not sell or share them. You can turn them off at any time in Settings → Privacy → "Share usage data"; the app then sends nothing and discards anything not yet sent.

Diagnostics

Apart from the usage events above, the app sends no diagnostics of its own. Windows may send crash reports to Microsoft according to your Windows diagnostic settings, and Microsoft may share aggregated reports with HAYAH through Partner Center. These contain no book content or file names. Pages are displayed by Microsoft Edge WebView2, which is part of Windows and follows the Microsoft Privacy Statement.

Children

The app does not ask anyone, including children, for personal information. The usage events above are anonymous and are the same for every user.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, for example when a later version adds an optional in-app purchase, the new version will appear on this page with a new effective date. Questions: hayah.apps@gmail.com.
